​The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey of encounter, accompaniment and faith formation. Whether you are new to an RCIA team or have many years of experience, ongoing formation helps us grow in confidence, deepen our understanding, and strengthen our ministry.
The Archdiocese of Adelaide warmly invites parish RCIA team members, clergy and anyone involved in accompanying those exploring the Catholic faith to join our RCIA Team Training Series. Each workshop has been designed to provide practical guidance, theological insight and opportunities to connect with others engaged in this important ministry.
Together, we will explore best practice, share experiences, and reflect on how we can continue to welcome and accompany those seeking Christ within our parish communities.

Workshop 1: RCIA Overview
​Date: Tuesday, 7 July (in-person) or Thursday, 9th July (online)

This introductory workshop provides an overview of the RCIA process, exploring its vision, purpose and key stages. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the catechumenal journey, the roles and responsibilities of the parish team, and practical ways to foster a welcoming and faith-filled experience for those preparing to enter the Church.
Whether you are joining an RCIA team for the first time or would like to refresh your understanding, this session offers a valuable foundation for the ministry ahead.
We look forward to journeying with you as we continue to build welcoming communities of faith across our Archdiocese.

Workshop 2: The Inquiry Period
Date: Tuesday, 14 July (in-person) or Thursday, 16th July (online)

The Inquiry Period is a time of welcome, listening and discovery, where those exploring the Catholic faith are invited to ask questions, share their stories and encounter the Gospel within the life of the Church.
This workshop will explore the purpose and significance of the Inquiry Period, offering practical guidance on creating a welcoming and hospitable environment where authentic relationships can flourish. Participants will consider how to accompany enquirers with sensitivity and compassion, respond thoughtfully to questions of faith, and discern readiness for the next stage of the RCIA journey.
Ideal for both new and experienced RCIA team members, this session will provide practical insights and resources to help foster meaningful encounters that encourage deeper faith and belonging.


Workshop 3: The Catechumenate Period
Date: Tuesday, 21 July (in-person) or Thursday, 23rd July (online)

The Catechumenate is the heart of the RCIA journey—a time of intentional formation, spiritual growth and deeper conversion as catechumens are immersed in the life, prayer and mission of the Church.
This workshop will explore the purpose and structure of the Catechumenate Period, focusing on the four pillars of formation: catechesis, liturgy, community life and missionary discipleship. Participants will consider practical ways to accompany catechumens as they grow in faith, deepen their relationship with Christ, and become active members of the Christian community.
Together, we will reflect on the role of the parish in nurturing this journey and share practical ideas and resources to support meaningful, engaging and faith-filled formation. Whether you are new to RCIA ministry or seeking to enrich your existing practice, this session will provide valuable insights to strengthen your accompaniment of those preparing for full initiation into the Church.


Workshop 4: The Period of Purification and Enlightenment
Date: Tuesday, 4 August (in-person) or Thursday, 30th July (online)

The Period of Purification and Enlightenment is a time of profound spiritual preparation as the Elect journey towards the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Centred on prayer, reflection and conversion, this period invites a deeper encounter with Christ and a renewed openness to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
This workshop will explore the purpose and significance of this sacred period, including the Rite of Election, the Scrutinies, the Presentations of the Creed and the Lord's Prayer, and the spiritual preparation that takes place throughout Lent. Participants will reflect on how parish communities can prayerfully accompany the Elect during this time, fostering an environment of encouragement, discernment and hope.
Through practical guidance and shared experience, this session will equip RCIA teams to support the Elect with confidence, helping them embrace this final stage of preparation with faith, reverence and joyful expectation as they approach the Easter Sacraments.


Workshop 5: The Mystagogia Period
Date: Tuesday, 11 August (in-person) or Thursday, 6th August (online)

The Period of Mystagogia marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of discipleship. Following the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation, the newly baptised continue to deepen their understanding of the mysteries they have received, growing in faith through prayer, participation in the Eucharist, service and active involvement in the life of the Church.
This workshop will explore the purpose and importance of Mystagogia as a time of ongoing formation, reflection and integration into the parish community. Participants will consider practical ways to accompany the neophytes beyond the Easter season, fostering meaningful relationships, encouraging continued faith development, and supporting their active participation in the Church's mission.
Through discussion, shared experiences and practical resources, this session will help RCIA teams cultivate a welcoming parish culture where newly initiated Catholics are encouraged to continue growing as joyful missionary disciples, nourished by the sacraments and sustained by the support of the Christian community.
